Purpose of the catalogue
The YUXUA Public Domain Literature Library is a curated collection of 94 public-domain poetry and verse works, each accompanied by an original editorial note. The catalogue is designed to help readers discover and engage with historical texts by providing context, analysis, and reading guidance. It is not a scholarly edition but a resource for general readers interested in exploring literature beyond the plain text.
Scope and selection
All works are drawn from Project Gutenberg, the largest repository of free public-domain ebooks. The selection Catalogue maintenance uses source records and bibliographic context. The library includes canonical authors (Shakespeare, Whitman, Milton) as well as lesser-known voices (Frances E. W. Harper, Violet Jacob, Andrew Lang). the catalogue project, The catalogue groups works according to its available bibliographic records and subject scope.
Source attribution
Every book record explicitly notes Project Gutenberg as the publisher. The original source text is unchanged; editorial materials are original to YUXUA. No text has been modified, corrected, or annotated within the literary work itself. The catalogue's about page and contact page provide further details on sourcing.
Bibliographic records
Each entry includes the author(s), title, publisher, keywords, target reader, and a catalogue note. The keywords are derived from Project Gutenberg metadata and may include subject headings such as "English poetry" or "Children's poetry." The target reader field is standardized as "Readers of public-domain and historical texts." The catalogue note is an original editorial summary that highlights key themes and structural features.
Category assignment
Works are grouped into four categories: Adventure Picaresque Fiction; Fantasy Juvenile Worlds; Science Fiction Utopias; and Historical Psychological Social Fiction. These categories are interpretive frameworks, not rigid classifications. A single work might fit multiple categories; the assigned category is meant to suggest a productive angle for reading. Category decisions were made by the catalogue project based on the work's content, themes, and historical context.
Editorial reading context
Each editorial note (e.g., "A Closer Reading" or "Themes and Context") is written from the perspective of a single reader—the catalogue project. The notes are not peer-reviewed or certified by any academic institution. Edition facts and text measurements
No text measurements (word counts, page numbers) are provided, as they vary by format and device. Recommendations and related works
